"Many autistic people have a variety of sometimes exceptional skills that enable them to thrive in roles ranging from sales assistant to computer programmer and journalist to statistician, to name a few. However, they are often disadvantaged when it comes to getting and keeping a job because of difficulties with social communication and interaction, and other people's lack of understanding. Autistic employees may need some simple support within the workplace."
THE NATIONAL AUTISTIC SOCIETY
Take a look at what we’re doing below
To engage primarily in community based social activities / events in the Ribble Valley area to raise funds for individuals who need support in gaining employment.
For instance, we are currently helping a person become an apprentice and complete a Level 3 Business Administration course at Burnley College.
Mainly we will be raising funds by organising social events that everyone can get involved with and enjoy. We have already organised three very successful sing-along film nights and have a number of ideas already in the planning stages, such as a concerts showcasing local artists and Eat & Entertainment.
We are seeking out local companies to support us with this scheme so that they can benefit from understanding autism to help make their workplaces a better place to be. We are already indebted to the amazing support of local organisations/companies, Lancashire Young Farmers and Purdie Oak.
Over the last few years we have organised film nights at St Mary's Community Centre in Clitheroe. Sadly, because of the lockdowns, we can't do this now but fortunately we have nearly achieved our goal so we will find a way to make up the difference.
So, please help us help people with autism to find a real vocation in their lives.
